Be right back….

August 20, 2011

I’m working at the moment, earning cash for a mortgage. What a drag.

But..I’m working on some interesting things and getting some interesting experience. I’ve also realised that things are changing, and that the iPad/ePad experience is slowly changing things, not so much of itself but as a vehicle for pervasive and contextual technology. I bought an Asus Transformer [1], and having used and mused about it with friends and colleagues it strikes me that it (the “Pad” experience) subtly changes the way we use and associate our lives with computing (My wife won’t give it back)

A touch screen, without a keyboard, small and light enough to conveniently carry around, with a web connected, linked operating system and experience by default means that all of a sudden we’re not tied to keyboards and desks, that we have technology in rooms of the house you wouldn’t before (at least not with such immediacy and flexibility), and that the connected social aspects of the internet are in our hands all the time. Now, what better place to make use of Linked Data and the semantic web ?

Other than that, I’ve come across O’Reilly Make [2] for the second time (this time I bought a copy), Arduino [3], and my interest in Collective Intelligence [4] and statistical analysis is alive again, for a variety of reasons. So hopefully, I’ll get to converge these things on my wrist watch, alongside embedded vi [5], and be ahead of my son when gets out of college in about 10 years. It’s that or I’m going to become a baker.
